Horses are such remarkable animals. I have received so many emails from people telling me how much they love their horses. I was living in a small town called Cambridge, Idaho. It's out on the western side of Idaho, near the entrance to Hell's Canyon National Recreation Area. My wife and I were staying at a friend's property just outside of town, and some neighbors had put their horses into the pasture area behind our mobile home. One night, the moon was full and the wind really blew. I had this idea that the horses flew off with the wind and the moon. That's how I came up with this song. I love horses. I grew up in the suburbs outside of New Haven, Connecticut, and I never got to live with horses. They are remarkable animals. It is a shame that the Bureau of Land Management wants to euthanize the wild horse population in the western United States. Hay and alfafa prices have gone up so much that people just don't want to keep horses as much anymore. Tell me, when the gasoline runs out, how are people going to get around without a horse? Save and honor the horses, they are special companions to human beings.
