| Le cheval appelé « Barbe » est tout simplement le cheval indigène du MAGHREB. Cette région géographique a été « identifiée » sous ce nom dés le Xème siècle de notre ère par les géographes arabes. Ils l'ont décrite comme formée des pays que l'on appellera plus tard : LIBYE, TUNISIE, ALGÉRIE, MAROC, ESPAGNE, sans oublier la SICILE Le Barbe est une très ancienne race chevaline originaire d'Afrique du Nord, sur un territoire s'étendant de la Libye au Maroc Il est traditionnellement associé aux peuples du Maghreb. Le nom de la race barbe est tiré du mot berbère, qui signifie "originaire d'Afrique du Nord". 1. Étymologie phantasia Les spectacles désignés au Maghreb sous les vocables de laâb el Baroud ou lab-el-baroud , (soit « le jeu de la poudre » ), ou laâb el-kheil (soit « jeu des chevaux », héritent du nom de fantasia suite à une méprise. Venant, selon une première version du mot grec phantasia (φαντασια), en passant par le bas latin et l'italien et désignant un « spectacle imaginaire », une « faculté de concevoir des images » , ou selon une autre version, du mot d'origine espagnole fantasía signifiant « imagination », mais aussi « vanité, arrogance » , le terme entre dans les parlers marocain et algérien, où il prend le sens de « panache, gloire ». Selon une autre version, l'utilisation du mot fantasia viendrait d'une confusion entre deux mots en arabe classique construits sur la même racine verbale trilitérale, khayal signifiant « imagination » et khayyal signifiant « cavaliers ». Le mot a un temps été écrit phantasia. 2. Histoire Le cheval berbère, barbe ou arabo-barbe, est l'espèce la plus généralement utilisée à cette occasion. Des dessins rupestres datant de la préhistoire attestent la présence de ce cheval en différents points du Maghreb où il fut domestiqué et monté par diverses tribus ou peuples autochtones. En Algérie, il existerait dans les Aurès une forme de fantasia traditionnelle à un ou deux cavaliers munis de sabres. 1. Dans les Aurès , Il y existe trois types de fantasia : • La fantasia à caractère individuel : Elle comprend un cavalier en tenue traditionnelle équipé d'armements . • Le deuxième type de fantasia est semi-collectif . Là il s'agit de deux cavaliers avec leurs chevaux . • Le troisième type de fantasia enfin , est collectif . La troupe est composée de 5 à 10 cavaliers . Le départ est donné par le chef de troupe et la démonstration se joue sur 600 mètres linéaires . Arrivant au milieu du parcours , on donne le signal pour tirer le Baroud . La Fantasia fait partie du patrimoine et de la Culture Algérienne a besoin d'une bonne prise en charge afin d'être sauvegarder . Le manque de terrain pour la pratiquer reste l'un des principal obstacle à son développement . |

| At first Calgary officials said the 'Stampede' was cultural and historic - same argument used by 'Seal Hunters' in Eastern Canada. Now on TV the Stampede official was saying that the Stampede attracts 330,000 + spectators, almost making the connection that the horses are collateral damage, the price of doing business. Cockfighting is cultural and historic to many people and nations around the world, it also has a large audience, there are countries where the same can be said for dog fighting (cultural, historic and entertaining) sometimes dogs die. There is no difference today between cockfight, dogfighting or the Calgary Stampede because of another common denominator - money. Specifically making money and entertaining people at the expense of animals. Money drives the Calgary Stampede, it's big business and part of the old mindset of 'build it and they will come' tourism mind set. In the world of big business driven by greed, everything becomes expendable it makes no difference between people or horses. A horse dies, get another one, lot's of horses out there. NOT all rodeo's and stampede's are the same, in small town Canada and USA there are rodeo's and Stampede's that celebrate the contribution that the horse and cowboy's made to the wild, wild west. Places where horses are still held in high esteem and respected. The small town rodeo's and stampede's are for the enjoyment of people and not the pursuit of money. Perhaps the big city attitude of chasing money and ignoring rights of the animals to be treated with some respect and dignity will now bring about the Calgary Stampede demise, Even the attitude of the Stampede supporters on TV show contempt for animal welfare and that will get a response. |

In 1933, August A. Busch, Jr. gave a hitch of Clydesdales to his father in celebration of the resumption of brewing in St. Louis following the repeal of Prohibition. Clydesdales--a powerful breed of draft horses--originated in the Clyde valley of Scotland, and they are known for the distinctive, feathery hair on their fetlocks--the lower parts of their legs above and behind the hooves. Originally, farmers living in the 19th century along the banks of the River Clyde in Lanarkshire, Scotland bred the Great Flemish Horse, the forerunner of the Clydesdale. In the mid 1800's, Canadians of Scottis descent brought the first Clydesdales to the United States, where today they are primarily used for breeding and for show. To qualify for the Budweiser hitch, a Clydesdale must be a gelding at least four years of age. He must stand 6 feet at the shoulder when fully mature, weigh between 1,800 and 2,300 pounds, be bay in color, have four white stocking feet, a blaze of white on the face, and a black mane and tail. Each harness and collar weighs approximately 130 pounds, and is handcrafted from brass and leather. Pure linen thread is used for the stitching. Dalmatians have traveled with the Clydesdales since the 1950's. Dalmatians have long been associated with horses and valued for their speed, endurance and dependable nature. Today, the Dalmatians are perched atop the wagon, seated next to the driver. These high stepping horses make hundreds of public appearances every year, in addition to appearing in television commercials and other Budweiser Beer advertising. The hitch of Clydesdales here in New Hampshire are just one of several owned by Budweiser, which offers free tours of it's brewery located at 221 Daniel Webster Highway, just off Route 3 at Exit 10. Visitors are welcome to visit the Clydesdales at their picturesque stables on the property. You can usually find 8-10 Clydesdales at their stables which are open to the public free of charge all year around. The first Saturday of every month is Clydesdale Camera Day, when visitors have the opportunity to get up close and take plenty of pictures. |
